Veterinary practices often struggle with performance issues not because team members lack skill or dedication, but because expectations, accountability, and follow through are unclear or inconsistently applied. This session explores common performance and accountability snafus in veterinary practices including vague job expectations, avoidance of difficult conversations, inconsistent enforcement of standards, ineffective performance reviews, and accountability systems that exist on paper but not in daily operations. Attendees will learn how these breakdowns contribute to burnout, disengagement, compassion fatigue, and resentment among high performing team members. The session provides practical frameworks for setting clear expectations, documenting performance effectively, and holding team members accountable in a way that is fair, legally defensible, and supportive of a healthy veterinary workplace culture.
